This can be especially true of as we play out so many roles in life as mothers, caregivers, wives, and daughters. We forget about being mindful and accountable for our own health and well-being.

The truth of the matter is, you are in a much better place to take care of others when you take care of yourself. This is the only body you will get, learn how to take care of it to your best abilities. When you show up 100% healthy, that’s when you are able to provide for others without doing damage to yourself.

Lifestyle Habits That Can Support Women’s Health

Food Choices and Nutritional Habits

Regardless of your age, doctors agree that a woman’s diet should be focused on fruits, vegetables, fiber, and protein. These give you the building blocks necessary to maintain healthy muscle and organ function.

If you are of childbearing age it is important to consume foods with folic acid in order to prevent birth defects. If you are a woman who has gone through menopause it is recommended that you increase your intake of foods rich in Calcium and Vitamin D which can help to support bone density.

Limit foods that are high in sugar, eat smaller portions more frequently, consume less sodium, and limit your alcohol intake. P.S. No one can survive on just coffee for breakfast, so please eat something, like maybe some eggs or a bowl of oatmeal to start your day.

Hydration is Key. This is true for people of any age or gender, but pregnant or breastfeeding women especially need to be well hydrated. Having a good balance between water, electrolytes, and nutrients in your body is important to maintaining optimum health. Staying hydrated is one of the fundamental ways that your body cleans itself and moves all vital nutrients and vitamins throughout your organs.

Physical Activity

Make your physical activity a top priority in your daily routine. Go to the gym, take walks, try some yoga, or engage in anything you can to keep your body moving. It is essential that you remain active every day, to keep your body in a healthy rhythm.
20-30 minutes of Cardiovascular activity is highly recommended for weight management, heart health, and stress reduction. No time for a bike ride or a run, have a dance party with yourself or your kids. Not only is it fun but dancing is great for mental and physical health, isn’t that awesome!

As we get older, getting plenty of high-quality sleep becomes even more important. When we are sleeping, we give our bodies time to recover from our day, so we can wake up ready for the next day. It is also important to practice relaxing, learning how to reduce stress in healthy way is so critical to being your best self.

High Quality Sleep

Get plenty of sleep, high quality sleep becomes even more important as we get older. When we are sleeping we give our bodies time to recover from our day, so we wake up ready for the next day. Hand in hand with good sleep, is relaxation.

Learning how-to reduce stress in a healthy way is so critical to being your best self. Showing up as the best woman you can be starts with the simple aspects.

Wellness Care

Don’t be wary of getting professional advice. Going to annual checkups or scheduling visits with your gynecologist are some essential ways of staying on top of your health. There are many screenings and tests available in terms of preventative care that can help you catch potential health issues early on and help you make course corrections in diet and lifestyle to support optimum health. One might even consider Thermography as an early screening option for monitoring breast health.

Breast Exams and Mammograms are another key factor in preventative health, these screenings are so effective at catching breast cancer in its early stages.

Maintain Healthy Relationships

Learn to say no, learn how to set boundaries and how to honor yourself. “Being able to say ‘no’ is an important skill. We have to acknowledge that we are a finite being, and we have to pick the priorities that are most important,” Dr. Fordham says.

We underestimate the power behind saying no and understanding when we need to step away from things. It is much harder to set those boundaries with your spouse or children, but those relationships thrive from boundaries just as much as your professional ones do.

Your health and wellbeing are critical, taking care of yourself allows you to take care of others. Whether you are a mother, teacher, wife, sister, coworker, or entrepreneur; don’t let your health slide to the back burner. You are important and worthy of the love and care that you give to others. So, eat your veggies, move your body, and prioritize your physical and mental health.
