Shocking Results You Can Get From Juicing Fruits and Veggies
Let’s Talk: Juicing Fruits and Veggies
At this point juicing is no secret, and I can safely assume that most people know a few people in their lives that swear by juicing.
We aren’t here to talk about a juice cleanse or any sort of new diet, but rather talk about the benefits that it holds as well as sharing the best fruits, veggies, and herbs to juice. You may be someone who juices every day, or someone who has never tried it before but is curious.
Either way, this is the blog post for you…
Best Fruits and Veggies to Juice for Maximum Wellness Results
Quite a few fruits and vegetables have heat sensitive nutrients that can be easily destroyed in the process of cooking them, with juicing you can avoid this and retain MORE of the ingredients if done in a cold pressing method.
Beets are one of my favorite things to juice. They have a beautiful, vibrant color and carry a host of health benefits. Beets have manganese, potassium, folate and are great at boosting nitric oxide in the body. They also pack vitamins A, C, and B12 on top of many minerals (iron, copper, phosphorus) and phytonutrients (carotenoids, lutein, and betaine).
Carrots pack a powerful punch of vitamin A, biotin, and potassium. On top of that they are full of carotenoids, which are strong antioxidants. A diet high in carotenoids lowers the risk of degenerative diseases such as eye disease, heart disease, and certain types of cancer. The taste of carrot pairs well with most other fruits and vegetables.
Pineapple is one of the only dietary sources of bromelain, which has been used for centuries to treat a variety of ailments including but not limited to: digestive support, swelling, inflammation, osteoarthritis, and chronic pain. Pineapple juice is also a fantastic source of manganese, vitamins C, B6, A, and thiamine.
Cucumbers are a lovely addition to any juice. They are low in calories but very high in potassium, manganese, and vitamins K and C. Cucumbers aid in staying hydrated, which is important for everyone, especially in the summer. Good hydration keeps your digestion running smoothly, helps with kidney function, and weight management.
Celery juice was a fad for a while, and for good reason. Like cucumbers, celery has a great water content and is high in vitamins A, C, and K, along with many powerful antioxidants. Celery improves heart health by decreasing blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Certain compounds in celery have been shown to have anti-inflammatory aspects, which could help those who struggle with chronic pain.
Parsley may not seem like a great thing to juice, but that could not be further from the truth. Fresh parsley is high in vitamins A, C, and K. The combination of these vitamins is great for decreasing blood sugar levels, helping with allergies, and improving liver function.
Mint adds the sweetest taste to any juice and health benefits as well. Mint has enzymes which make it a great thing to help break down food and send it to the right places in your body. Mint has also been shown to boost your short- and long-term memory retention. Not to mention it helps relieve nausea and calm a headache.
Grapefruit is full of vitamins A, C, fiber, potassium, and choline. Vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants are overflowing in grapefruits, and they have a tangy refreshing citrus flavor which allows them to pair nicely with other fruits and vegetables. They can also help boost metabolism which is always a great thing during the summer season!
Kale is a fantastic source of vitamins A, C, and K. It is also especially high in beta carotene, a potent antioxidant, which helps to reduce the risk of heart disease.
Many juice recipes can be tailored to address certain issues or areas of concern that you may have with your health. For example:
- A healthy and delicious juice recipe for inflammation is; Pineapple, Cucumber, Green Apple, Mint, and Celery.
- One of my favorite recipes for keeping my immune system strong/to ward off flu symptoms is; Orange, Parsley, Lemon, Oregano, Ginger, Carrot, and Grapefruit.
- A great stress reducing blend for juicing is; Carrots, Kale, Oranges, Beets, and Celery.
Juicing is a healthy and relatively fast way to get your body the vitamins and nutrients that it needs with half the digestive effort. When you juice fruits and vegetables, the “meat” of your produce is separated from the “carrier” and you just intake the essential parts of the fruits, and/or vegetables. Not only does this save you time and energy, but now your juice (full of phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals) can be quickly and easily absorbed by the cells in your body.
If you’re anything like me, you struggle to eat the recommended number of servings when it comes to fruits and vegetables. Juicing is a great way to combat that issue, while also throwing new greens into your diet that you might not have eaten much of before.
There is a plethora of powerful and delicious juices that can help in many targeted areas as well with overall health benefits. When you juice you truly utilize all the great benefits that fresh produce has to offer. If you’ve never juiced before, start slowly, and build your way up to larger quantities. When you can choose local and organic produce!
