Eating for Beauty

We have all heard the phrase “You are what you eat!” but it’s truer than you think…

A good diet can save you time and money at beauty salons and on fancy skincare products. Some foods appeal to your taste buds, but work against your natural beauty by accelerating aging, working against a healthy weight, and/or sending you on a mood roller coaster.

Now some things may vary a bit from person to person but there are certain food staples that almost everyone will see a reaction from, predominantly in their skin.

In this blog post we are going to dive deeper into the foods/drinks/ingredients to avoid that cause beauty blunders while also exploring the foods/drinks/ingredients you can incorporate into your diet to boost your beauty!

The Affect of Common Foods and Drinks On Skin

So let’s start with some of the ones that are more commonly recognized as being problems when it comes to healthy skin.

Alcohol is a huge liver stressor, while also stripping nutrients from your body (example: calcium from your bones) and disrupts your hormones.

Caffeine in excess is not a good idea because it increases cortisol levels which speeds up the aging process, can cause more wrinkles, and prevents your body from fully absorbing all the nutrients that you need.

Dairy products are one of the biggest culprits when it comes to acne and all the unwanted hormones in dairy can disrupt the hormone balance in your body. If you don’t seem to have any problems digesting dairy, it is still wise to limit how much you consume and to buy local or organic dairy products.

Did you know that overly grilled foods with the black charr on the bottom aren’t good for you? The black charring is carbon deposits on your food and consumption of these foods is carcinogenic and has been linked to cancer.

Cooking your food to a level of overdone or burnt also kills off many of the good nutrients in your fruits, veggies, etc.

Minimize the number of processed foods, sodas, and other food with high sugar content as well because these foods can be severely lacking in needed nutrients, are packed with inflammatory additives, are linked to weight gain, can breakdown your collagen, and can have a negative impact on your immune and digestive systems.

So you may be asking yourself, okay so what can I eat?

Well, I’m glad you hypothetically asked that because thankfully there is a lot more you should eat, than things that you shouldn’t.

There are over 150 hand-picked foods/drinks/ingredients that we recommend focusing on with your diet, some will have more explanation than others. Just know that there is more information available about the health benefits of these foods than we will delve into with this blog post.
