Healthy Solutions For Natural Wellness
Clever Ways to Support Healthy Living…
Being your healthiest self is a universal ideal. Especially with COVID still a concern and flu season upon us, staying healthy has never been more important.
Keep in mind that everyone has different areas of health that they can address.
There is the idea of overall wellness, but also targeted issues.
In addition to following basic healthy guidelines, you can also use specific supplements to address targeted health concerns. Supplements have the benefit of being able to address specific areas that may need extra support.
When it comes to health, there are a variety of ways that we can support our body, mind, and emotions. In this blog post, we’re going to look at some of the most common concerns people are facing and a few things that may support those concerns.
Check out some of our favorite health and wellness foods and supplements!
Antioxidant Rich Foods
Foods full of antioxidants help to fight damage caused by free radicals. Exposure to pollution or other toxins can leave your immune system weakened. Red grapes, dark chocolate, leafy greens, beets, carrots, and artichokes are full of vitamins A, C and E.
Your protein sources are also great to be mindful of. Protein is full of amino acids which fuel your immune system. Try and include lean meats, fish, eggs and greek yogurt.
Vitamin C
This is one of the most important vitamins and a powerful antioxidant. Vitamin C supports your body’s natural barriers that keeps germs out and may help to kill bacteria or viruses that enter the body. Citrus fruits can be your best friend, as they contain high levels of vitamin C. As do; strawberries, tropical fruits, bell peppers, broccoli and tomatoes.
If you’re going to take a Vitamin C supplement, keep in mind that it is best absorbed by your body in lower doses like 500mg at a time or in time-released or liposomal formulas.
Iron
80% of people around the world have an iron deficiency. This is can be concerning due to your body needing iron to produce hemoglobin (protein in red blood cells that transports oxygen). Iron deficiency anemia will leave your body feeling weak and fatigued.
Red meat, seafood, spinach, tofu, cashews and whole grain bread have high levels of iron. Pregnant women need to eat plenty of iron to support the growth of a healthy baby. If you’re not getting enough iron in your diet, consider taking an iron supplement. There can be health concerns with taking too much iron, so make sure to consult your doctor and use an iron that is non-constipating and well absorbed.
Zinc
Minerals are just as important to our immune system as vitamins are. Both work together to give you that boost against our everyday environment. Research done on zinc has shown that it is great in reducing the risk, severity and duration of infectious diseases. There are also anti-inflammatory effects.
Oysters, cashews, chickpeas, shellfish and oats/bran products have high levels of zinc. Short term use of zinc supplements has been shown to shorten the length of colds, especially when taken within the first 24 hours of infection.
Magnesium
This mineral is used by your body to help regulate healthy cell function. Magnesium can also help with muscle spasms, bone density, chronic pain, and may assist those with high blood pressure.
Not everyone needs to take a magnesium supplement, but most people do not consume enough of it in their diets. Magnesium can be found in pumpkin seeds, almonds, and spinach.
Potassium
This mineral is huge, especially for people who consume more than the recommended levels of sodium daily. Potassium counteracts sodium in the body and decreases the pressure on your artery walls. This can also lower blood pressure. Foods containing potassium include; apricots, oranges, bananas, lima beans, brussel sprouts and prunes.
Ashwagandha
CoQ10
Coenzyme is naturally found in the body. Your cells use the CoQ10 to make energy and protect your body from oxidative damage. Fish and nuts contain high levels of CoQ10. People following a vegan diet are likely to not get enough of this crucial enzyme.
Your naturally occurring levels of CoQ10 decline as we get older, as well as people with certain types of cancer, diabetes, or who take cholesterol lowering medications. As we age CoQ10 supplements have been shown to be helpful for a variety of reasons, including mitochondrial support for energy and joint health.
Low energy, a weakened immune system, and high blood pressure are three common health problems facing many Americans and it’s important to know what you can do to avoid and/or address them.
Plenty of exercise, lowering stress, and making healthy food choices will go a long way towards more energy, vitality, and protection against illness. Try to incorporate one or two of these every day and see how much of a difference they can make.
