7 Clean Ingredients That Your Skin Will Love!

Here’s how to put your best face forward…

Our skin is the largest organ in our body and one of the easiest ones to damage. Therefore, it is essential that we try to incorporate products with organic and healthy ingredients into our skincare routines to protect it. Whether it’s shampoo, sunscreen, body wash, or makeup it is important to use the right products to guarantee the results that you are looking for.

Now that we know it’s important, let’s talk about what “natural skincare” really means

Natural and organic have become buzzwords that get used quite frequently, even if the ingredients are far from that. When it comes to buying your products, you must do more than just look for “green washed” products and those buzzwords.

The word “clean” on your products technically carries more weight but can still be used without having the greatest ingredients used. “Organic” is the most regulated word used today. Your best bet is to stick with organic products, but still exercise your due diligence of reading the ingredients list on your go to products.

Whenever you go to buy a new bottle of shampoo, sunscreen for your kids, or a bold new shade of lipstick do your research on the brand, their certifications, and read what exactly they put into their products.  A great resource for this is www.ewg.org where you can plug in single ingredients and discover their toxicity levels.

You may be wondering, “How do I even know where to start?” The rest of this blog post is going to dive deep into exactly what the true “natural, organic, and clean” ingredients are that you should be using.

7 Clean Ingredients That Your Skin Will Love!

7 Natural Ingredients To Look Out For When Purchasing Your Skincare Products!

Colloidal Oatmeal

You can find colloidal oatmeal in moisturizers, shampoos, and shaving products. This has been proven to provide a deep level of moisture and to reduce redness and dry, itchy skin. If you have poison ivy, eczema, or severe redness this might be the product for you. Colloidal oatmeal is supercharged with fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals that have all been shown to improve the texture and appearance of your skin.

Pomegranate

While pomegranates are delicious, they also pack a skincare punch. Their main property is being an antioxidant that can help to regenerate cells and protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Pomegranate contains antioxidants such as anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and tannins. These are all key blockers of free radical damage, which accelerates the aging process.

Green Tea

Not only is green tea a fantastic alternative to coffee, its high content of polyphenols or catechins have been known to reduce irritation, redness, and swelling. Green tea has powerful antibacterial properties that help treat acne and unclog your pores. Polyphenols in green tea fight against infection, meaning that it’s a useful tool for treating bacterial growth that causes acne. Vitamin B2 is abundant in green tea which helps maintain collagen, keeping your skin looking young and firm.

Curcumin (found in Turmeric)

Curcumin is a natural antioxidant and has antibacterial properties as well. If you have problems with inflammation or acne scarring, turmeric-based skincare might be the solution for you. Turmeric is also shown to help with eczema. Curcumin might also significantly lighten hyperpigmentation, especially in combination with lime. Turmeric has potential to slow the aging process and is used to reduce wrinkles and improve your skin’s elasticity.

Aloe Vera

There are over 400 species of aloe vera. Aloe vera is typically applied topically, most known for its ability to help reduce the pain and redness of sunburns. Aloe can also be used for other types of burns and minor wounds. Aloe’s properties relieve the “burning sensation.” Aloe can also be used for those who have dry skin due to its intense hydration factor.

Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca)

Melaleuca has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which can greatly reduce the appearance and formation of acne. Tea tree oil can also reduce the oiliness of skin and decrease the size of your pores. Dealing with itchy skin? Melaleuca can also help you there. Tea tree oil is best applied with a carrier oil or found in other products.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is widely known for its moisturizing properties. This is due to the fatty acid content which includes linoleic, stearic, and palmitic acids. These acids help to restore lipids and bring back moisture. The balance of oils means that shea butter is readily absorbed and won’t settle on your skin, creating an oily film. Shea butter also has a high concentration of Vitamins A and E, which means it has antioxidant properties. Not to mention it is anti-fungal!
